DIY Disasters?

ServiceMagic, Inc.
asked "weekend warriors" if they ever regretted taking
on a home project that was too big for them. 38% said
they learned a painful lesson by trying to do things
like
remodeling,
landscaping or
painting. 15% actually spent
more money because they had to call in a pro to finish
what they couldn't. 36% said their biggest worry about
taking on a project is their lack of confidence in their
skills to complete the project.
Remodeling Tips for 2007:
Remodeling isn't easy. Not for you or
your contractors. Home additions seem to speed along
until the roof is on. Bathroom remodels always uncover
some hidden mold or plumbing problem. You want new
windows, and the weather won't play along. Rather than
looking ahead to 2007, let's reflect on 2006 to see what
we've learned about remodeling so that we are more
prepared for anything that 2007 can throw at us.
Multi-Room Remodels:
Kitchen remodels are great, but if this project isn't
accompanied by renovations to the adjacent rooms, you
will create a design flaw. One room is incredible; the
others next to it, so-so. A multi-room remodel is likely
just the thing for your home. At the very least, the
paint pallet needs to match, and the trim needs to be
consistent from room to room.
