Spring 2009 Home Repair
Get
a Jump Start on Home Repairs and Spring into Spring
Springtime
is the right time to tackle home repairs and maintenance
projects. Start the season with a quick check up to keep homes
functioning safely and efficiently.
A
backyard beautification movement is sweeping across America.
Spring home improvements provide the perfect opportunity to jump
on the bandwagon while taking steps to repair and maintain
homes.
Home
repair tasks for spring can be divided into five major sections.
The five areas to concentrate home maintenance efforts are on
home exterior and interior, decks, walls and fences, home
foundation and alarm systems.
The
home exterior likely took a beating in the winter so repairs in
the spring are focused outdoors. Get on the roof to check
shingles for wear and damage. For homeowners uncomfortable with
heights, power lines and the intricacy of rooftops, YHN is
available to safely handle all roof maintenance tasks.
Clean the carpet,
check linoleum, treat wood cabinets, re-caulk showers and tubs…
this is what spring cleaning is all about! Spring home repair
projects are a great way to chase away winter and make sure that
the home interior is ready for warmer weather.

Spring 2009 Cont....
Check
walls, ceilings and floors for any discolorations that
may indicate water damage and call for larger home
improvement jobs as the season progresses. Air furnaces
should be changed to filter out allergens and keep the
furnace running efficiently.
Floor vents and ceiling fans
should be set for spring. Fans should rotate to push air
down in the summer and vents should point directly at
living spaces. Windows should be checked for cracks or
breaks for optimum efficiency.
Spring seems made for
seeding and feeding the lawn, planting flowers and
possibly an herb garden. However, don’t ignore other
home repairs in the yard. Check sprinkler zone coverage
and heads for proper operation. Often sprinkler
maintenance is as simple as removing any rocks and dirt
that may have clogged up the line.
Give decks a good sweep.
Spring’s temperature changes will cause wood to expand
and contract. If proper home maintenance is not done,
boards will loosen and warp. Check for protruding nails,
tighten screws and re-set nails. Decks and railings
should also be pressure washed and sealed. While home
repair tools and products are out, do the same for
wooden fences.
The condition of the
foundation of the home is vital to home structure.
Foundation home maintenance will become a high-cost home
repair if not treated properly. As the weather clears up
for spring, check concrete for cracks, chips and
shifting.
Grinding, caulking and
scraping are home repair tasks an owner may prefer to
leave to professionals at YHN. The foundation of a home
needs to be repaired correctly to prevent further issues
and expenses. In addition, YHN will be able to match the
surrounding finish and complete the job flawlessly.
On the easier side of
spring’s home repair list is to run a simple check of
all alarm systems in the home. Make sure the smoke
alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are working in
every room. Sound the alarm and replace the batteries.
Also make sure to test any security alarms installed in
the home.
Replacing the batteries of
the alarms when changing the clocks for Daylight Savings
Time is a great way to remember this small but crucial
home maintenance task. This springtime job is simple,
quick and may save the lives of everyone in the home.

FYI:
If we are to get out of this recession then we must all spend a
little to do so, not hold on to everything.. In the 1930's they
made a run on the banks and created a moneyless economy, thus
becoming a depression. When we finally decided that we need to
buy things we started recovering.
In the 40's we quit spending for the war effort and again a
recession was here. We got over the war and decided that we want
things now and wahla, we recovered.
The same is true for the 70's and 80's.
If we eat out once every two weeks,( just spend a little
somewhere), we keep other in their jobs and we all begin
to earn and spend and grow. The stock market will grow and our
retirement grows. We become a money economy again.
As we horde our monies it earns nothing and becomes less
valuable, for thing cost more to produce and less is made,
costing more for the end users.
Let get on the right band-wagon!
